Today I’ve got an “empties” review for you! I’ve been collecting these items for a couple months now and I have a great idea on how I feel about each one of them. I think empties are the best way to get a clear review of products because you used them all up! I’ve got a little bit of everything in this post: skincare, make up, body care, hair care, and even baby care! Let’s get started!
Before I get into my skincare empties, things to note I have normal to dry skin, not acne-prone, somewhat sensitive, with concerns of aging primarily. Since my skin is on the dryer side, I tend to look for items to make my skin brighter and glowier (but who doesn’t want that?). Just keep in mind that we all have different preferences and what worked/didn’t work for me may work/not work for you. And yes, some of these items are expensive. I put a high value on keeping my skin as youthful as I can.
Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer
This moisturizer claims to improve your skin’s tone, texture, and firmness. It is also recommended for all skin types from oily to dry and everyone in between. I would agree that I think anyone can use this one, which is pretty unusual. I used this mostly as my nighttime moisturizer, but I did use it quite a bit as my daytime moisturizer as well.
Do I think it worked? I think so! I noticed a difference when I moved on to a different nighttime cream.
Will I repurchase? Already did. I’m currently finishing up two other moisturizers so this one is next in the lineup!
P.S. Sephora has had some extra discounts in between their normal Fall and Spring VIB Sales, so definitely keep on eye on your e-mail to save on these pricier items.
Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream
It claims to be for all skin types and helps with firmness, brightness, and fine lines/wrinkles. I used this both during the day and at night. It wore well under makeup.
Do I think it worked? Ehhh, I’m not convinced. I had high hopes since it contained vitamin C and my skin loves it. When switching from my old eye cream, I think I noticed more wrinkles and darkness when using this one. I think I’ll stick my O.G.
Will I repurchase? No. I don’t think this way the right one for me.
Fresh Vitamin C Glow Moisturizer
This moisturizer also claims to be for every skin type; however, I don’t think you’ll enjoy it if you have oily skin. It definitely leaves a glow.
Do I think it worked? Yes! I love this moisturizer! It makes your skin look lively and radiant. I normally used it in the morning before makeup. I could definitely tell a difference when I stopped using it.
Will I repurchase? Absolutely. I have to get through a few other items and then it’s all mine again!
Algenist Power Recharging Night Pressed Serum
Retail: $95 (yeah, I didn’t pay $95 for mine—I got it on Hautelook for like $30)
Well, this one has claims to help with dryness, dullness, and fine lines. It also states that it’s for all skin types. It’s supposed to show improvement in your skin in as little as 10 days.
Do I think it worked? Not really. I don’t think this is suitable for someone with dry skin, though. I never really felt like it hydrated my skin nearly enough.
Will I repurchase? I saw it on Hautelook not long ago and decided to pass on it. It’s not something I feel like I have to have in my routine.
Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm
This is a typical cleansing balm where you rub it on dry skins and rinse with water. It’s also really hyped in the beauty community as well. Cleansing balms are my preferred method of removing makeup. It’s so easy and I feel like it’s better for your skin than makeup removing wipes.
Do I think it worked? It did its job for the most part. It definitely didn’t get all of eye makeup off, which is a bummer, I don’t even use waterproof.
Will I repurchase? No. I love the IT Cosmetics Cleansing Balm more. There are also some more affordable ones that I’ve been trying out. I’ll let you know about those in another empties, hopefully.
Maelove The Glowmaker Antioxidant Serum
This is a vitamin C serum with no frills. It also contains hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. This is suggested to be used in the morning.
Do I think it worked? Absolutely. I have never loved a serum more. I think it wore really well under makeup as well.
Will I repurchase? Placing my order as we speak. I really wish I would have never run out of this one. One thing to note is that the expiration date once opened is 3 months, so you better be ready to use this bad boy every day. I used it daily and it took me about 4 months. Does that mean my skin broke out after 3 months? No, but it does mean the serum was likely less effective.
No.7 Hydraluminous Water Surge Gel Cream
This formula is geared toward dry skin and claims to help prevent pollutants from damaging your skin while creating glowing skin.
Do I think it worked? I used it every day in the morning and it wore great under makeup. I did try to use it just at night and thought that it was not hydrating enough to use overnight. However, there was a week where I used it morning and night and definitely thought using it twice a day made a huge difference.
Will I repurchase? I would definitely consider it.
L’Occitane Cleansing and Soothing Almond Oil
I bought this back last Fall while I was pregnant, and it was a Godsend. My skin was dry and of course, stretching, from growing a tiny human. Now, shower oils are a little weird. They don’t foam up like body wash, because they are supposed to be more moisturizing.
Do I think it worked? Definitely. I only use it a few times a week, but I think it’s crucial for me to keep dry skin away. I also didn’t have a ton of stretch marks and I think this was part of the reason why along with some other products.
Will I repurchase? I repurchased the larger refill bag a few months ago. I love this product!
Jergen’s Natural Glow Moisturizer
This is a gradual tan moisturizer that I use a few times a week. I purchased mine at Target in the shade Medium to Tan. I’ve talked about this product before in a monthly favorites post (I’ll link it below). Even if you’re fair, I think it’s important to grab medium to tan. The light to medium makes you look orange!
Do I think it worked? Yep.
Will I repurchase? Already have. This time with “firming” properties. I’ll let you know if I notice a difference.
Tree Hut Sugar Scrub in Lychee & Plum
This is my favorite body exfoliating scrub. I’ve purchased a variety of scents and loved each one! This scrubs really well and leaves your skin feel moisturized.
Do I think it worked? Absolutely! I love using it before I shave for a closer and smoother shave!
Will I repurchase? Yep. This is a staple in my shower. This time I have the Lemon Blueberry Tart scent!
Batiste Dry Shampoo
Retail: $4.99-$6.49 (depends on scent)
I went through two dry shampoos over the last few months which is a little unusual for me. I used to only use it in a pinch, but I’ve been growing my hair longer these last few months and trying to wash it daily has become a struggle (not to mention it’s not great for your hair).
Do I think it worked? Yes! I’ve been using Batiste for years. Thankfully, I have blonde hair, so the white cast doesn’t stand out quite as bad, but I just make sure to work it into my hair really good. They may even have a version for brunettes out there too. I think this is by far the best affordable option for dry shampoo.
Will I repurchase? Of course. Just find the scent you like. I really like Sweetie and Blush.
P.S. I had no idea they have a 3-pack on Amazon for $13!!!
Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask
This is a 5-minute hydrating mask for your hair that I used maybe once a week. Like, I mentioned before, I’m trying to grow my hair longer and that means you have to maintain your hair and keep it hydrated. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a lot of damage and split ends, especially if you heat style your hair like I do.
Do I think it worked? Yes. I always had a better hair days following the use of this product.
Will I repurchase? I haven’t yet, but I’m going to put it on my list to repurchase.
L’Oreal Infallible Freshwear Foundation
This is a medium to full coverage foundation that is supposed to feel lightweight, but last 24 hours with a satin/skin-like finish.
Do I think it worked? Now, I never tested this for 24 hours, but I do believe it is one of the longest lasting foundations I’ve tried. I really like it. I do think it feels lightweight and doesn’t look cakey on the skin. I really like the L’Oreal Pro Glow Foundation, but it broke me out really bad. This one doesn’t.
Will I repurchase? Already have. I think I’m on my 3rd bottle. I would consider this my everyday foundation for work.
Anastasia Brow Wiz in Blonde
I bought this back in Ulta’s 21 days of Beauty in March. The brow wiz is typically in every spring Ulta sale for 50% off, so if it’s something you use or want to try. I would keep an eye out for sales. I’ve used this brow pencil for a few years now and it’s definitely one of the best when it comes to shade range, which is really important, especially if you’re a natural blonde. It’s really hard to find the right shade as I don’t have darker brows like some people.
Do I think it worked? Absolutely. It is definitely one of my never fail products.
Will I repurchase? I think I still have one stashed away from the sale, but I think I have a new favorite brow pencil. What? Yep, it’s true. I love the L.A. Shady Slim Brow Pencil in Blonde. It’s only $5.99 at Ulta! I’ve already purchased a backup. It’s that good!
It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara
This is another product that I picked up during an Ulta sale. It was half off at the time. I used this mascara a couple years ago and remembered really liking it. It was volumizing and lengthening! This time I feel like they changed the formula or maybe I got a dud.
Do I think it worked? See above.
Will I repurchase? No. I like my L’Oreal Lash Paradise way better and it’s $9.99. Another great mascara that is a dupe for the Superhero mascara is the Essence Lash Paradise and it’s $6.99. The only thing about the Essence mascara is it’s hard to get off at the end of the day.
Stila Stay All Day Eyeliner
I recently ran out of a second one of these. It’s my holy grail liquid eyeliner. I decided to try out a more affordable option with the Makeup Revolution Renaissance Eye Flick. It’s fine, but I need my Stila!
Do I think it worked? Love it. Doesn’t run or smudge and it’s extremely black.
Will I repurchase? It’s been about a week since I’ve run out. I forsee a trip to Ulta this weekend.
Missha BB Cream in No. 21
This one was also in a recent favorites post. I love this one as an everyday lightweight foundation/bb cream. It has decent coverage and doesn’t make your skin look dry. The only thing is the shade range is limited since it’s a Korean brand.
Do I think it worked? Absolutely, for what it is. Don’t expect it to last 16 hours or coverage big skin problems.
Will I repurchase? Yes! It’s my favorite BB Cream by far!
Beauty Blender Pro Solid Cleanser
I use this to clean my brushes and makeup sponges. I’ve tried a variety of different methods to clean my makeup tools, but this is the best and the easiest by far. Previously, I used the smaller container that is around $16, but found the larger option to be a better deal.
Do I think it worked? This is my preferred method to clean my brushes and sponges. It’s works really well and the larger size lasts about 6 months (I clean regularly—sponges every other day and brushes every other week).
Will I repurchase? Absolutely. I have one on backup as we speak.
Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Wash
It’s supposed to promote a calming environment for your baby, as well as, provide moisture for their sensitive skin. I feel really accomplished for finishing this one up. It took 9 months! Babies are little and don’t get a bath every day.
Do I think it works? Definitely. I like that it bubbles up really well too.
Will I repurchase? Absolutely. We need to get through a few baby shower gifts first.
Johnson’s Hand and Face Wipes
I know a lot of people use regular baby wipes or wet ones, but these are a game changer. You can use them for all sorts of things. Wiping them up after the eat, cleaning their face after they sneeze, or even wiping them down if they’re not getting a bath that night.
Do I think it works? Definitely. I think they are gentler than baby wipes and wet ones too.
Will I repurchase? Yes! I don’t really have a preference for brand though to be honest. We’ve used up packs from Up & Up, Johnson’s, and Aveeno. I love them all!
Well, if you’ve stuck around this long, you’re amazing! Thanks for hanging in there with me! Next time, I won’t wait so long to do an empties review post. If you found this post helpful, please leave a comment down below and thanks for stopping by!
