Can you hear that? Yes, it’s all of our wallets screaming at the mere thought of Target or shall I say: Tarje’.
It’s a wonderland of things you don’t need, but can’t help but buy. So how do you get the most bang for your buck?
Let’s start with the Target app. In the Target app, you can:
- See the weekly ad.
- Scan items in store to see if there is a cartwheel discount.
- Search for the exact aisle a product is on in your local store.
- Purchase online.
- Pick up in store—or my favorite: Drive-Up!!!
I know this post is about money-saving, but hang with me here. If you haven’t tried Drive-Up at Target, you must! It is such a time saver. And yes, I love perusing the aisles of Target just as much as each one of you, but when time is limited, this is the answer. So, you select your items in the app and select the drive up feature when you want to add to cart. Your items will be ready in two hours or less just like the “Pick up in store” feature. I’m lucky, my local Target always has my order ready in 20 minutes or less!
Once you get to Target, you park in one of the designated spaces and click in the app “I’m here.” A friendly employee will soon pop out to bring your items. Sometimes they scan the barcode for your order and sometimes they don’t.
Your receipt is then e-mailed to you. You can also get the “Buy two get a $5 Target Gift Card” Promos. You just select how you want to receive the gift card when you place your order. You can get them e-mailed, texted, or physically mailed to you.
Best parts of Target Drive-Up:
- You get your items same day.
- No shipping fees.
- Sometimes you can get “in-store only” promotions.
Ok, do you have any coupons to use on your trip? Target will accept one Target coupon and one Manufacturer coupon per item (just make sure your coupon is 1) not expired and 2) for the items you’re trying to purchase—look at the quantity or size requirements). Target also has some coupons in “Wallet” portion of the app. There also might be some coupon offer signs around the store that you need to text a specific number to receive the coupon. When the cashier finishes scanning all your items, now is the time to give them all your coupons including the ones of the wallet portion of the app.
Now, we’ll move on the Cartwheel portion of the Target app. This is where you’ll find all your additional discounts like 5% off on select sizes of Tide/Downy or 10% off Women’s Dresses. You click the plus sign on the offers you want to keep in your “wallet.” When you want to check out, the cashier will scan the barcode located in the “wallet” tab on the app. The register will automatically apply your discounts (the discounts show up on your receipt). Pro Tip: Some Cartwheel offers have a max amount of items you can use it on at one time. Most of the time it’s clothing. When you look at the offer, it’ll say limited 4 items or something similar.
It’s very important that if you’re using coupons and Cartwheel that you give the cashier the coupons first. Cartwheel always goes last. Otherwise they can’t use your coupons—eek!
Take a look at how much I’ve saved just with Cartwheel! $834.66!!!
Next, we’re on to Gift Card Promos! I always try to utilize the gift card promos when it’s products I need and it’s a good deal. For example, I always do the “buy $100 of select Baby items and get a $20 gift card.” Especially, when it includes formula (y’all know how easy it is to drop $100 on formula and diapers). Sometimes it’ll include toiletries, bottles, and snacks. Now, you can’t use the gift card you get immediately on your current purchase, but maybe your husband is behind you in line—he can use it on his! I’m not saying I’ve done that, but…I’ve done that.
Alright, the final step in your money-saving journey. The cashier will now ask you if you are saving 5% with your Target Redcard. If you’re not, you don’t like saving money. Or maybe you like your airline miles on your credit card better, I don’t know. There is a Target Debit Card which just comes out of your current bank account. All you need to sign up is a voided check (you can always do it online too.) Then there is a Target Credit Card (I don’t recommend this option—the interest rate is insane!).
So you still want your airline miles, huh? No worries, there’s always the new Target Circle which will give you 1% back on your purchases. I’m not sure how they get it back to you. If you guys know, put it in the comments below, please! If you have the Target Redcard, you can still sign up for Target Circle. You won’t get the 1% back, but you can get special offers and discounts by using it.
You can link both your Target Redcard and Target Circle to your “Wallet” tab in the Target App. You don’t even need to bring in your wallet. Just your phone!
Alright, I think that’s all the knowledge I can impart for now. If you have any money-saving tips for Target, leave them in the comments below. Happy shopping! And thanks for stopping by!
